At the University of Eastern Finland, Juho has hold a course on Corporate Responsibility. This course delves into the private, public, and international legal frameworks of corporate liability, applies various norms to legal challenges in corporate liability, and critically analyzes legal issues pertaining to corporate responsibility.
Juho is a researcher in the JARGONFREE project, a multidisciplinary research group at Tampere University. The project explores how contracts and codes of conduct can promote sustainable development and responsible business. Juho focuses especially on corporate sustainability due diligence obligations in supply chain contracts.
Juho has extensively followed the evolution of corporate responsibility legislation, having worked as an assistant to a Member of the European Parliament in the Human Rights Subcommittee and as a legislative secretary in the Finnish Parliament. These roles have provided him with a broad range of experience in human rights matters.
Juho’s doctoral dissertation, “Continuously Developing Human Rights Due Diligence: Operationalizing Access to Remedy – Impediments and Opportunities”, addresses the corporate responsibility “supernorm” of human rights due diligence. The focus is on the question of access to remedy – specifically, what kinds of corrective actions companies should take to address negative human rights impacts caused by their operations. Particular emphasis is placed on responsible contracting and the effective use of (non-judicial) grievance mechanisms.
